Uniquely developed coating against viruses and bacteria

The only construction structures with which people come into contact are doors and windows. We make direct contact with door handles and catches, with the help of which we can open and close the structures. In addition to traditional solutions, developers are now experimenting with virus- and bacteria-neutralising coatings, custom surface treatment solutions, and recycled products with a minimalist design.
Have you ever wondered about what multifaceted need a good door handle has to meet? It must have a beautiful design, be made of sturdy, high-quality materials, be in harmony with individual doors and windows and have a durable surface treatment. What else can a modern aluminium handle do? According to the KAV philosophy, a structure becomes modern if it also has added value. Developments by aluminium door and window system suppliers also look for answers to these questions.
In the Reynaers aluminium door and window system, the Purity door handle family has a unique minimalist design and a special surface treatment. In addition, Purity is also non-corrosive, hypoallergenic and fully recyclable, thanks to its combination of design, material and surface treatment. The mechanical properties of the “PURA” alloy used are between those of stainless steel and brass. With Purity handles, Reynaers has taken the first step in creating organic products.
With the appearance of Coronavirus, we must also pay special attention to disinfecting door handles. However, there is already a coating that can be effective in fighting viruses and bacteria. Through a joint effort by Sobinco, an aluminium hardware and door manufacturing company and a subsidiary of STA, and the biogenetics laboratories of the University of Coimbra, a surface treatment has been developed to prevent the spread of viruses, bacteria and fungal spores on the surfaces of certain objects, such as aluminium doors. The coating, given the name Nanocoat, has been successfully tested on the H1N1 virus and studies are currently underway that suggest that Nanocoat will also be effective against COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2). The surface of the aluminium is treated with a silica-based nanoparticle coating using a bioactive agent that perforates the cell membrane upon direct contact with viruses, bacteria or fungal spores and kills them immediately.
We can see that the products of the future will respond to changes in our environment and support our lives with their innovative solutions.

Reflecting the environment with closing systems

I did not have to choose from a catalogue, so I was not forced to choose from a set of solutions, but was offered individual solutions to a given problem. Of the companies I worked with, KAV gave me the most technical support.

Wind pressure is the biggest challenge for doors and windows designed for Iceland
Our company, is involved in the doors and windows solutions of the Marriott Hotel, being built near Harpa, one of the symbolic buildings of Reykavík. The Icelandic architecture and the weather conditions on the island require different systems from the ones we are used to at home, so the KAV team has also built a prototype for this work, taking into account, among others, the installation and insulation aspects. We build for the future rather than for today
Clear shapes, large glass surfaces, spacious interior spaces and creative use of materials – these are the main features of the most predominant architectural style of our era, minimalistic design, in which interest is outstanding in Hungary. However, the number of really well designed and built minimalistic family homes is relatively low. The property our engineers consider as one of the best designed ones our company has met in recent years was built in Budapest. During the project we paid increased attention to the design of large, liberally designed glass surfaces, essential for creating open spaces. Aluminium door and window systems for a golf club extension
