KAV Receives ALUTA Excellence Prize for Outstanding Aluminum Window Solutions
2023 / 06 / 15
This year, KAV has once again been honored with the prestigious ALUTA Excellence Prize, the sole recognition for Hungarian aluminium window and facade manufacturers. The ALUTA Excellence Prize in the “small project” category acknowledged the remarkable aluminium window solutions of the Felhő Street Reformed Kindergarten, with its most distinctive feature being the curved curtain wall boasting over 700 unique angles.
The KAV team has been recognized once more with the ALUTA Excellence Prize. We were responsible for the design, manufacturing, and installation of curtain walls, fire-resistant curtain walls, doors, fire-resistant doors, windows, and heat and smoke exhaust windows at the Svábhegy Reformed Kindergarten. In certain parts of this architecturally unique building, the height of shaped glass approached nearly 6 meters. The majority of the glass facade is vertically divided by a grass-covered ramp ascending the facade, which not only rises but also twists in space, enhancing its exceptional impact. Given that angles had to be cut into the curtain wall mullions from all directions on the inner curve, unconventional solutions were employed for securing the mullions.
At the ALUTA assembly, Mr. Károly Lovász, CEO of KAV, received the award from Mr. Sándor Fegyverneky, the president of the professional association. The chairman of the judging committee was Dr. József Finta, a Kossuth Prize-winning architect, and the committee members were Mr. György Stocker, an associate professor, and Mr. Sándor Fegyverneky, a former chief national architect.
About the Prize:
ALUTA announces a public competition every year to recognize architectural creations that align with its professional expectations and are characterized by modern, creative, innovative, environmentally conscious, rational, and high-quality architectural designs in aluminium-glass facade construction. Only those companies that consider production and product quality as essential prerequisites for realizing their market strategy and thus serve as custodians of the ALUTA trademark can become members of the association.

This is how we can extend the life of aluminium doors and windows
Long service life, high quality, exceptional durability and a modern look. Usually, these considerations also play a role in someone’s choice of aluminium doors and windows for their family home. Although distributors often advertise that aluminium front doors and windows are maintenance-free, there are a few things that we can do, not only to increase their service life but also preserve their appearance.

With innovation, there is a solution to every issue
The changing needs of customers and architects require continuous innovation in the field of aluminium door and window systems, too. One of the basic ideas of KAV's operation is that we believe that there is a solution to every issue. Of course, we also work in this spirit during our developments. The KAV Optivision system was created with the professional support of Alukönigstahl. Together with the company's sales representative, Gábor Kiss, we are looking for answers to those frequently asked questions that can be solved using existing products.

A medieval world built on stilts in the shadow of glass towers
The ALUTA, as the only domestic professional association of aluminum facade builders and window manufacturers in Hungary, organizes annual domestic and international study trips for its members. This year, our foreign trip took us to the Netherlands, a country with nearly 18 million inhabitants. Thanks to excellent organization, we were able to visit a significant number of unique buildings during our journey. Our team focused on exploring the cities of Amsterdam and Rotterdam, where a unique blend of European and colonial history, art history, and engineering culture unfolded before our eyes.

Clean shapes, large glass surfaces
In the exclusive family-home market, connection with the environment and the transparency that enables it have clearly become the most important factors in the domestic and international trends in custom doors and windows. On behalf of Etna Kft., KAV is participating in the construction of a building with three fully glazed facades. We talked about that special project and the most important directions of the sector with Nikos Zisidis, the executive manager of the client company.

Rebirth of a Bauhaus villa
This year, the Bauhaus is 100 years old, and it is a great pleasure for us to take part in the renovation of a property displaying the marks of this school. When the Bauhaus appears as a description of a building, it is a guarantee of clean shapes, exciting spaces and quality materials. Even so, it is important to point out that although several Hungarian architects were in contact with the famous German school, there are hardly any Bauhaus buildings, in the strict sense, in Budapest. Péter Lenzsér, the architect, talked about how this building bears the hallmarks of style and how it is worth embarking on such a renovation.

Do we need large glass surfaces everywhere?
Our colleagues are increasingly encountering residential building plans in which large glass surfaces dominate. These concepts are understandable not only from a design perspective but also because of transparency, connection with the environment, and the continuous influx of light. However, in many cases, they cannot be realized, or they require significantly higher investments and more complex alterations to the plans. In our new series, we explore the topic of the dimensions of glass surfaces with Mr. Károly Lovász, the CEO of KAV, and Mr. Csaba Mravik, the Chief Development Engineer.

THOSE ABOUT WHOM WHO NOBODY EVER TALKS, OR THE EMINENCES OF MANUFACTURING PREPARATION
KAV’s customers come into contact with several of our colleagues in the bidding, preparation and construction processes in the course of a job. These are our sales and estimation colleagues, our technical and manufacturing preparation engineers, our project engineers, and then our installation specialists. It is very rare that the end-user comes into contact with the manufacturing preparation engineers. In this article, we’d like to describe the work of these professionals in connection with the Continental Golf Club construction project.

Reflecting the environment with closing systems
The KAV approach helped a lot in its implementation. They talk to the customer and they don't want to sell a product, they want to answer questions and look for a solution.
I did not have to choose from a catalogue, so I was not forced to choose from a set of solutions, but was offered individual solutions to a given problem. Of the companies I worked with, KAV gave me the most technical support.

The market for shading in Hungary
Although, in the past, residential properties tended to be built in Hungary without shading, today it is a priority in the design process. Due to climate change, it is just as important for property to provide an optimal thermal performance in the summer period as it is during winter. For this reason, KAV began designing customised shading. Of course, when introducing an innovation, we need to take into account the nature of the Hungarian market. KAV’s Managing Director, Károly Lovász, talks about the most exciting developments.

The relationship between aluminium doors and windows and the façade
In parallel with the advent of the latest aluminium door and window solutions, including filigree case systems and large glass surfaces, façades have also been transformed in the family home market. In addition to functionality, design also plays a key role in more and more buildings. However, architects rarely involve professionals in the process of designing doors, windows and façades. According to Krisztián Vatai, executive director of Facade Design & Building, who is engaged in the design, construction and production of façades, a change of attitude and education is needed to change this.

The key to the realisation of large-scale glass structures is thinking together
Huge glass structures are definitive elements of modern buildings. It is therefore especially important that architects create the plans while thinking together with sector designers. On the questions arising while designing and constructing glass façades, we spoke with chartered architect György Mihály Stocker, reader in the BUTE and vice-president of ALUTA, who played an outstanding role as specialist consultant in the construction of the Hungarian House of Music in its present form.
