KAV was given an award in the aluminium door and window small project category

Aluta-Nívódíj-2021-KAV
2021 / 07 / 08

This year, the Aluminium Window and Façade Association (ALUTA) awarded its prizes again. KAV’s work was again given an award in the small project category, with the only prestigious recognition by the Hungarian aluminium door and façade manufacturers.

For the undivided glass façade of a villa building under construction in Budapest, in the “small project+”, i.e. residential building category, KAV received an ALUTA Award. In the past 5 years, KAV projects have received recognition in this category every time. The unique solutions of the award-winning villa building were created by rethinking Reynaers HIFI systems.

Every year, ALUTA announces a public tender for the recognition of architectural works created by using aluminium-glass façades that are modern, creative, novel in technical-technological design, environmentally conscious and apply rational and certified structures, while being compliant with the professional requirements set out in the objectives of its activities. The association is a professional and advocacy organization, established to implement the common interests of its member companies. Only companies that consider quality of production and products to be an essential requirement in implementing their market strategy may be admitted as members and, in this sense, they are custodians of the ALUTA brand. The association provides community services to its members, using its technical and intellectual knowledge pool, and represents members in the Hungarian Standards Body. In accordance with its goals, it provides further training, quality development and assurance services to its members with the help of domestic professional associations. It considers the medium-term market development of its members as its main task in its programme and, in order to achieve this, it avails of the assistance of the finest experts, opportunities in the media, and last but not least, cooperation with decision-makers. Its new undertaking, THE ALUTA GLAZING GUIDELINES, have become one of the basic elements of the Hungarian flat glass processing and construction industry, providing assistance not only to investors but also to the construction and design branches.

Windows in the service of maximising the view
Frameless windows are favourite elements in houses built in modern and minimalistic styles, since, thanks to the nearly invisible frames, the external and internal spaces almost connect; in this way, nothing disturbs the view, and also natural light may flow into residential spaces through a greater surface.

The evolution of closing systems in Hungary
If one spends many years in a specialised technical segment, sometimes answering questions from a professional interviewer will inadvertently recall the period from the beginning to the present. Studying the evolution of window and door products used in residential buildings is also instructive, because fashion always changes along with demand and financial opportunities. Everyone sees the past differently - we, Hungarians are special in this - but sales figures outweigh perceptions.

THE MARKET SHARE OF ALUMINIUM WINDOWS AND DOORS IS CONTINUOUSLY INCREASING IN RESIDENTIAL PROJECTS
The market share of aluminium and steel doors and windows in Hungary is constantly increasing with regard to single-family home projects as well. However, even in this stable market, the year 2021 introduced a number of unexpected situations: cancelled professional events, shortages of raw materials and supply chain disruptions. We spoke to Károly Eiles, the company's investment and general contracting consultant, about the impressions with which Alukönigstahl Kft. (the distributor of Schüco and Jansen systems in Hungary) closed this challenging year.

The key to the realisation of large-scale glass structures is thinking together
Huge glass structures are definitive elements of modern buildings. It is therefore especially important that architects create the plans while thinking together with sector designers. On the questions arising while designing and constructing glass façades, we spoke with chartered architect György Mihály Stocker, reader in the BUTE and vice-president of ALUTA, who played an outstanding role as specialist consultant in the construction of the Hungarian House of Music in its present form.

Our company, is involved in the doors and windows solutions of the Marriott Hotel, being built near Harpa, one of the symbolic buildings of Reykavík. The Icelandic architecture and the weather conditions on the island require different systems from the ones we are used to at home, so the KAV team has also built a prototype for this work, taking into account, among others, the installation and insulation aspects. Details were given by Norbert Kiss, architect consultant and Csaba Mravik, chief development engineer.

This is how we can extend the life of aluminium doors and windows
Long service life, high quality, exceptional durability and a modern look. Usually, these considerations also play a role in someone’s choice of aluminium doors and windows for their family home. Although distributors often advertise that aluminium front doors and windows are maintenance-free, there are a few things that we can do, not only to increase their service life but also preserve their appearance.

Finding the right solution for the project
Unlike its other competitors, KAV was not thinking about classic “contract manufacturing” - that is, not buying material from us, making and delivering it, so to speak - but actually looking at the whole project, looking for solutions and providing additional services to the Icelandic customer.

Development by KAV of customised shades
The hot and dry summers experienced over the last few years due to climate change have made suitable shading solutions ever more important. However, the standard systems available on the market do not meet individual customer needs either in terms of movement mechanisms or their form. That is why KAV’s engineers are offering customised aluminium shades that reflect contemporary trends in building. Károly Lovász, Managing Director of KAV, provides an insight into these special solutions.

We build for the future rather than for today
Clear shapes, large glass surfaces, spacious interior spaces and creative use of materials – these are the main features of the most predominant architectural style of our era, minimalistic design, in which interest is outstanding in Hungary. However, the number of really well designed and built minimalistic family homes is relatively low. The property our engineers consider as one of the best designed ones our company has met in recent years was built in Budapest. During the project we paid increased attention to the design of large, liberally designed glass surfaces, essential for creating open spaces. We had a conversation with the developer of the house about what was needed to create this property.
