After the successes of recent years, this year two KAV buildings were honored with the only recognition of Hungarian aluminium door and façade manufacturers, ALUTA Nívódíj. In the small project category, which includes residential buildings, the KAV project “Költőkert” in Mártonhegy, Budapest, was awarded the ALUTA Nívódíj. In the large foreign project category, our solutions for the Marriott Hotel in Iceland were recognized.
ALUTA announces a public competition every year to recognize architectural works that meet the professional expectations formulated in its objectives, including modern, creative, and environmentally conscious solutions in aluminium-glass facade construction, featuring innovative, environmentally conscious, rational, and certified structures. Only companies that consider the quality of production and products as an essential requirement for implementing their market strategy can become members of the association and be considered bearers of the ALUTA trademark.
This year, the ALUTA Nívódíj was awarded to two KAV buildings. In the small project category, the “Költőkert” project in the 12th district of Budapest was recognized. This bold residential garden, designed not only for Hungary but also for Europe, was conceived by Gábor Városi, an artistic advisor, and designed by TÉR Alkotó Tervező Kft. The project creates a world of uncompromising individual luxury combined with natural elements. The large terraces, unique glass facades, large frameless sliding doors, and unique structures reaching into the trees result in buildings harmoniously integrated into the landscape. From the perspective of doors and windows, the building consists of two main elements: a functionalist, landscape-integrated mass, and a lightweight steel grid that rests on it. In the connection of these two elements, large frameless sliding doors were placed by KAV’s experts into the curved glass facade. The minimalist appearance is ensured by concealed wing balcony doors and frameless motorized sliding doors.
In the large foreign project category, the ALUTA Nívódíj was awarded for the façade doors and windows designed and manufactured by KAV for the main building of the “Edition” luxury hotel of the Marriott Hotel in Reykjavik, Iceland, as well as for two apartment blocks. During the design process, which required prototype production, a unique system had to be created to provide protection against extreme conditions, including wind speeds of up to 380 km/h and heavy rainfall, while combining the advantages of prefabricated and buildable facade systems. The KAV engineering team worked together with engineers from Reynaers, both at their central office and in Hungary, as well as specialists from Gluggar in Iceland to develop solutions for water insulation, fire propagation on facades, and special opening modes. The 4853 m2 glass facade implemented by KAV creates a special transition between prefabricated facade systems, curtain walls, and traditionally manufactured standard windows and doors.
At the ALUTA assembly, Károly Lovász, CEO of KAV, received the awards from Sándor Fegyverneky, the president of the professional association. The chairman of the judging committee was Dr. József Finta, a Kossuth Prize-winning architect, and the committee members were György Stocker, a university professor, and Sándor Fegyverneky, the former national chief architect.
