The changing needs of customers and architects require continuous innovation in the field of aluminium door and window systems, too. One of the basic ideas of KAV’s operation is that we believe that there is a solution to every issue. Of course, we also work in this spirit during our developments. The KAV Optivision® system was created with the professional support of Alukönigstahl. Together with the company’s sales representative, Gábor Kiss, we are looking for answers to those frequently asked questions that can be solved using existing products.

What kind of glazed tilt-and-turn balcony door, which can work with a height of up to up to 3000 mm without division, is on offer?

The KAV Optivision® system, developed jointly by KAV and Alukönigstahl, combines concepts of design and functionality. The completely flat, glazed surface, viewed from the outside, enables large opening elements to be designed in a modern, minimalist style. And the tests prove that it meets the requirements for modern doors and windows to the maximum in terms of the properties of building physics. The Schüco FWS 60 CV system is a remarkable filigree-style concealed vent window solution. The point is that the sash is completely hidden behind the 60 mm wide curtain wall profile so that, when it is closed, the opening element does not differ from the fixed fields of the curtain wall. With an opening fitting, a huge sash height of up to 3176 mm can be achieved.

Is there a glass wall system at a more affordable price than the frameless PD sliding door system, with opening sashes that can be at level height (up to 3000 mm), motor-operated and installed with a ground-sill lowered to floor height?

Our deservedly popular Schüco ASS 70.HI system has been replaced in the last few years by the Schüco ASE 80.HI sliding door system, which surpasses its predecessor by far in all respects. With this, large sashes can be realised up to a sash height of 3500 mm and a sash weight of 600 kg. It can be selected with manual or motor operation. Thanks to the newly developed ground-sill solution, the ground-sill profile of the sliding door can be brought completely level with the exterior and interior floor cover plane, which is a great advance in both aesthetics and function. All this with a narrower sash profile, which allows for even greater transparency. In terms of design, it’s nearly only the imagination that sets limits: a 1, 2 or 3-rail design, and the development of positive and negative corner variations, as a catalogue element.

What is the system-level and permitted solution for fixing lamellar blinds to curtain walls?

Schüco offers its own curtain wall brackets that can be used as system components for various elements – e.g. for fixing blinds, canopies and advertising surfaces. It is important to select the right bracket already in the design phase, because in some cases the type of bracket also affects the design of the curtain wall itself.

Can Schüco windows be operated with fully concealed motors and do their control work with building management systems available on the domestic market?

Schüco’s proprietary Schüco TipTronic concealed motorised hardware is a highly innovative, yet well-proven hardware system. The window hardware remains completely hidden, with no hinges or handles visible on it, so it fits perfectly into a modern, clean-looking building. It can be used in almost any opening mode, be it a ventilation window or a heat and smoke extraction window. If necessary, it can be built as an independent system, it can even be integrated into today’s prevalent building management systems, so that every conceivable user need may be realised using it

Windows in the Design Process from an Architect’s Perspective

Frameless sliding door structures with an architect’s eye

Each project poses a different challenge to architects and to door and window professionals as well. One of our reference concepts is based on the unlimited view created by the wing-opening roof and the space stretched by the floor. Filigree division solutions, as well as frameless sliding mechanisms, were the main solution to achieve maximum transparency. Special KAV doors and windows in Költő Kert

MTVA's innovation magazine program, Novum, made a report on the special glass elements and door and window solutions of the 5,000 square meter Költő Kert villa park, a building complex that is also considered special in Europe. Environmental awareness, innovation, organic architectural elements with transparent huge glass surfaces, and a way of thinking in which visual culture also plays a prominent role. One of the biggest challenges in the Költő Kert villa park was the special solutions that the KAV staff had to create at the junction of the raw concrete surface and the glass membrane. Károly Lovász highlighted in the report that KAV's engineers and employees had to solve many challenges during the planning and execution, whether it was thermal technology, sun protection, mechanical engineering, glass railing connections or waterproofing. The result is a simultaneously organic and high-tech building, which is considered exceptional in Hungary not only in its appearance, but also in its innovations.

Finding the right solution for the project

Unlike its other competitors, KAV was not thinking about classic “contract manufacturing” - that is, not buying material from us, making and delivering it, so to speak - but actually looking at the whole project, looking for solutions and providing additional services to the Icelandic customer.

Facade structures for full transparency

Curtain walls connect several large glass surfaces into a single structure, many times in an invisible manner. Initially these elements were exclusively used in communal building technology but, with the penetration of the minimalistic style, it also appeared in the family home segment. Aluminium windows and doors and the gluing technique

Unique windows and doors, large glass surfaces and narrow frames would not have become part of our building culture without developments in gluing technology. We talked to Gábor Farkas, head of the industrial glue technology division at Sika Hungária Kft., about the special fixing and sealing processes and innovations that have emerged in this field over the past decade. The cooperation between KAV and Sika goes back many years. In the beginning, they only supplied sealing materials for glass-to-glass connections made on-site, but today they supply KAV's factory workers and installation team with special materials and tools, and also train our engineers.

The ALUTA awarded two KAV buildings

After the successes of recent years, this year two KAV buildings were honored with the only recognition of Hungarian aluminum door and façade manufacturers, ALUTA Nívódíj. In the small project category, which includes residential buildings, the KAV project "Költőkert" in Mártonhegy, Budapest, was awarded the ALUTA Nívódíj. In the large foreign project category, our solutions for the Marriott Hotel in Iceland were recognized.
