KAV is amongst the most excellent companies in Hungary

KAV Hungária was awarded a prize in the Innovation and Ongoing Perfectioning and the Culture of Recognition categories in the Hungary’s Most Excellent Companies Award Programme.
This year, Investors in People Hungary (IIP) and the British Chamber of Commerce in Hungary (BCCH) award the prizes in the Hungary’s Most Excellent Companies Award for the second time. This programme was launched by the two organisations in 2016. By awarding a prize to organisational solutions that are also outstanding in international relations, they aim to set examples to be followed by the actors of the Hungarian economy, and to create a community that helps to raise awareness of the most excellent practices and to spread them.
At the awards gala, KAV Hungária received two prizes. According to the justification “the company is an envied actor in the Hungarian construction industry in many aspects; its competitive advantage is due to its innovation-oriented organisation and its maximum demand for quality”.
The Hungary’s Most Excellent Companies Programme certifies the quality, consistency and business usefulness of human resource management practices, based on the criteria of the international Investors in People Standard. The Investors in People Standard and accreditation system was launched in 1991 in Great Britain with the intention of supporting companies with useful ideas, and to provide a professional framework that creates competitive advantage through the development of the organisational background and its alignment with business goals. In the past 26 years, this Standard became the international benchmark for organisational development and human resources management. International accreditation is granted for good practices, which signals, as a strong distinguishing trademark, that the company is a better workplace and business partner than others.

The hot and dry summers experienced over the last few years due to climate change have made suitable shading solutions ever more important. However, the standard systems available on the market do not meet individual customer needs either in terms of movement mechanisms or their form. That is why KAV’s engineers are offering customised aluminium shades that reflect contemporary trends in building. Károly Lovász, Managing Director of KAV, provides an insight into these special solutions.

Choose big aluminium windows and doors!
The use of aluminium doors and windows in family homes allows increasingly large glass surfaces to appear in residential buildings. Because we spend a large part of our time indoors, high-transparency aluminium windows and sliding doors help to create an almost direct connection with the environment. We discussed with Károly Lovász, the managing director of KAV Hungária, why it is worth choosing large doors and windows.

Aluminium curtain wall with arches and large glass surfaces
The design was one of the biggest challenges in the production and installation of the aluminium doors and windows of the Reformed Kindergarten in Svábhegy, since more than 700 individual solid angles had to be calculated to create the aluminium curtain wall, which was not only a segmental arch, but also broken at the bottom and top edges. We talked about this process with Zoltán Erdélyi, KAV’s senior engineer.

Aluminium windows and doors and the gluing technique
Unique windows and doors, large glass surfaces and narrow frames would not have become part of our building culture without developments in gluing technology. We talked to Gábor Farkas, head of the industrial glue technology division at Sika Hungária Kft., about the special fixing and sealing processes and innovations that have emerged in this field over the past decade. The cooperation between KAV and Sika goes back many years. In the beginning, they only supplied sealing materials for glass-to-glass connections made on-site, but today they supply KAV's factory workers and installation team with special materials and tools, and also train our engineers.

Special KAV doors and windows in Költő Kert
MTVA's innovation magazine program, Novum, made a report on the special glass elements and door and window solutions of the 5,000 square meter Költő Kert villa park, a building complex that is also considered special in Europe. Environmental awareness, innovation, organic architectural elements with transparent huge glass surfaces, and a way of thinking in which visual culture also plays a prominent role. One of the biggest challenges in the Költő Kert villa park was the special solutions that the KAV staff had to create at the junction of the raw concrete surface and the glass membrane. Károly Lovász highlighted in the report that KAV's engineers and employees had to solve many challenges during the planning and execution, whether it was thermal technology, sun protection, mechanical engineering, glass railing connections or waterproofing. The result is a simultaneously organic and high-tech building, which is considered exceptional in Hungary not only in its appearance, but also in its innovations.

Facade structures for full transparency
Curtain walls connect several large glass surfaces into a single structure, many times in an invisible manner. Initially these elements were exclusively used in communal building technology but, with the penetration of the minimalistic style, it also appeared in the family home segment. Today it is the most dynamically developing branch of the closing structure market, in that these surfaces are suitable for individual solutions where only the imagination of the client and the designers can set the boundaries.

Custom windows and doors beyond the standards
Just as in many areas of the world, ‘unique’ and ‘self-expression’ are the strongest buzzwords; so change the needs of architects and developers. However, most door and window manufacturers are finding it difficult to go beyond the standard items, although this area also offers many innovations in the field of architecture when it comes to sincerely rethinking structures.

The Role of Windows in the Design Process, an Architect’s Perspective
Kenyeres László, a leading architect at the Archista architectural firm, believes that villa buildings can be considered small form factor public buildings. This is why he considers it crucial to consult with window and door specialists multiple times during the design process. This approach helps avoid situations where window and door companies have to "re-design" certain parts of the building during the construction phase.

The relationship between aluminium doors and windows and the façade
In parallel with the advent of the latest aluminium door and window solutions, including filigree case systems and large glass surfaces, façades have also been transformed in the family home market. In addition to functionality, design also plays a key role in more and more buildings. However, architects rarely involve professionals in the process of designing doors, windows and façades. According to Krisztián Vatai, executive director of Facade Design & Building, who is engaged in the design, construction and production of façades, a change of attitude and education is needed to change this.

Development by KAV of aluminium doors and windows with an all-glass look
Optivison© is unique in Hungary. (KAV is the only player in the small and medium-sized business sector to have developed aluminium doors and windows with an all-glass look for family homes.) Apart from KAV, no one among small and medium-sized enterprises has developed all-glass look aluminium fenestration for family houses.
The system was designed to respond to the needs of our customers: we made the frame flush with the glass by rethinking the structure of tilt and turn windows and balcony doors. Our solution creates a ‘glass wing’ effect, making Optivison© systems the trend-setting doors and windows for modern family homes.

When building or renovating a house, developers and architects may be wondering when it is worth deciding on an aluminium front door. In addition to durability, the main argument may be that aluminium can deliver dimensions and solutions that neither wood nor plastics allow.
