ALUTA NÍVÓDÍJ 2025 – Now a foreign project by KAV has received recognition

As part of the ALUTA Nívódíj 2025, the jury awarded two villa building projects designed, manufactured, and installed on-site in Australia by KAV.

The unique product development and unconventional implementation of the aluminum façade windows for the villas built in Newcastle, near Sydney, were recognized in the “small project” category.

All in all, the two buildings, located close to each other, differ in their layout and structure. Affter all a common expectation for both projects was the airy movement of large glass panels and the use of a concealed frame. The client specified the application of the Cortizo Corvision Plus frameless sliding system for both buildings. In one residential building, our team had to realize a corner-opening sliding door that is not available in the catalog. Slides into a single-track wall on one side, while the other side operates with a three-track system.

Our company was responsible:

  • for the design,
  • client consultations,
  • manufacturing, and
  • management of the on-site installation of both standard and special products.

The composite framework bonding of all locally manufactured glass panels prior to installation was also entrusted to our employees. At the ALUTA awards ceremony, Károly Lovász, the Managing Director of KAV, received the award from Sándor Fegyverneky, the president of the professional association.

The jury:

Chairman: György Skardelli, a Kossuth and Ybl Miklós award-winning architect and recipient of the Építészeti Príma Primissima award.

Members: Dr. habil György Stocker, DLA architect and associate professor at the Department of Bridges and Structures at the BME Faculty of Civil Engineering, the vice president of ALUTA, and Sándor Fegyverneky, architect, and president of ALUTA.

About the award:

Every year, ALUTA announces a public competition for the recognition of architectural creations that meet the professional expectations outlined. Accordingly in its objectives, showcasing modern, creative, technically advanced, environmentally conscious, certified structures in aluminum-glass façade construction. The members of the association consider the quality of production and products as an essential requirement for the realization of their market strategies. All things considered in this context, the involved companies are custodians of the ALUTA trademark.

Aluminium windows and doors and the gluing technique
Unique windows and doors, large glass surfaces and narrow frames would not have become part of our building culture without developments in gluing technology. We talked to Gábor Farkas, head of the industrial glue technology division at Sika Hungária Kft., about the special fixing and sealing processes and innovations that have emerged in this field over the past decade. The cooperation between KAV and Sika goes back many years. In the beginning, they only supplied sealing materials for glass-to-glass connections made on-site, but today they supply KAV's factory workers and installation team with special materials and tools, and also train our engineers.

Aluminium window trends based on customer needs
When it comes to aluminium windows and doors, the name ‘KAV’ has become associated with custom client needs. Many of the ideas and plans that come to our attention can lead later on to the development of aluminium windows and doors. So, if we want to present the trends for 2022, it is worth starting with what Károly Lovász, Managing Director of KAV, and Csaba Mravik, Chief Development Engineer, have experienced and what products are now being sought by builders of family homes.

Those about whom who nobody ever talks, or the eminences of manufacturing preparation
KAV's customers come into contact with several of our colleagues in the bidding, preparation and construction processes in the course of a job. These are our sales and estimation colleagues, our technical and manufacturing preparation engineers, our project engineers, and then our installation specialists. It is very rare that the end-user comes into contact with the manufacturing preparation engineers. In this article, we’d like to describe the work of these professionals in connection with the Continental Golf Club construction project.

Production of custom doors and windows at the KAV plant
Most domestic companies selling aluminium doors and windows do not have their own production capacity. However, in KAV's imposing manufacturing plant, they are able to resolve even seemingly impossible profile connections. This is where further thought-out versions of Schüco or Reynaers profile elements and completely unique door and window solutions are manufactured, designed and developed by KAV engineers. We talked to Albert Herbut, the head of KAV's Kisbér plant, about the production processes and the operation of the plant.

Choose big aluminium windows and doors!
The use of aluminium doors and windows in family homes allows increasingly large glass surfaces to appear in residential buildings. Because we spend a large part of our time indoors, high-transparency aluminium windows and sliding doors help to create an almost direct connection with the environment. We discussed with Károly Lovász, the managing director of KAV Hungária, why it is worth choosing large doors and windows.

KAV also helps the work of architects
From now on, KAV assists the work of architects with a complimentary consulting service. This is because, closing systems are such special structural elements that their thorough knowledge and following the trends is nearly impossible for those not specialised in this field. Now architects may ask their questions of Norbert Kiss, who worked as a designer for a long time himself, and now he has been strengthening the KAV team for years.

The Role of Windows in the Design Process, an Architect’s Perspective
Kenyeres László, a leading architect at the Archista architectural firm, believes that villa buildings can be considered small form factor public buildings. This is why he considers it crucial to consult with window and door specialists multiple times during the design process. This approach helps avoid situations where window and door companies have to "re-design" certain parts of the building during the construction phase.

The key to the realisation of large-scale glass structures is thinking together
Huge glass structures are definitive elements of modern buildings. It is therefore especially important that architects create the plans while thinking together with sector designers. On the questions arising while designing and constructing glass façades, we spoke with chartered architect György Mihály Stocker, reader in the BUTE and vice-president of ALUTA, who played an outstanding role as specialist consultant in the construction of the Hungarian House of Music in its present form.

When a dreamt-of work of art becomes a reality
Properties being created in an ongoing KAV project may nearly be interpreted as works of art. No company with relevant references could be found, either in Hungary or abroad, for the implementation of buildings that were considered unique at the European level too. We talked about this special job with Mihály Fodor, the Managing Director of the implementing company, and András Havasy, the project’s Technical Director.

The Architect needs to think with the door and window specialist
People at KAV can think together with the project, suggesting fancy solutions that often go beyond installation instructions. They think about it, add some parts that make a door trendy, no matter how strange it sounds at first. They feel the fine details that need to be put into it. They can think together with their architect colleague.

The relationship between aluminium doors and windows and the façade
In parallel with the advent of the latest aluminium door and window solutions, including filigree case systems and large glass surfaces, façades have also been transformed in the family home market. In addition to functionality, design also plays a key role in more and more buildings. However, architects rarely involve professionals in the process of designing doors, windows and façades. According to Krisztián Vatai, executive director of Facade Design & Building, who is engaged in the design, construction and production of façades, a change of attitude and education is needed to change this.

Windows in the Design Process from an Architect’s Perspective
The question of when to engage window experts in the design process often arises. In this context, architect and head of the Archista architectural firm, László Kenyeres, shares his experiences. He believes that in today's architectural design process, windows and doors are a critical aspect because they represent one of the most complex parts of a building. Therefore, even those not well-versed in the world of windows may require external assistance to confidently complete an execution plan.

For a smart home, product selection is key
For a newly built property, in terms of windows and doors, one of the most important questions is whether prospective residents would like a building management system in the house, as all solutions need to be tailored to this in the design phase. For today's systems, system-specific connector units and auxiliary modules must already be planned and positioned so that they can remain completely hidden.

Architectural design of aluminium doors and windows in our time
The aim of the KAV team is to provide our customers with all the solutions for their unique doors and windows needs, whether it may be a minimal window, a frameless sliding door, an aluminium front door, a blind or even a curtain wall. Most customers start looking for windows when they already have the finished designs, but we increasingly often see, during the consultations, that these designs are not detailed enough.
