It has been a well-kept secret for a long time, and today many in the facade and structure building business are also talking about KAV’s new undertaking. Aluminium closing system products manufactured according to special customer demands are not only interesting due to their specific technical and weather requirements but also because of the installation location.
When talking about Iceland, adventure, untamed natural forces and constantly changing weather pop into one’s mind. The beautiful cold-climate island next to Greenland, which everybody wants to visit once in their lifetime, where one can feel the force of nature. Where it is always windy, the weather changes every five minutes, from snow driving horizontally, through sunshine to drizzling rain. However, from next year, this island of wonders may also mean a lot for many Hungarians in a different aspect since, due to a new hotel project, we will design, manufacture and supply closing structures and modular facade elements to Iceland.
The gazed facade of the future main building of the five-star Reykjavik “Marriott EDITION” hotel and several apartment buildings will be manufactured by us. Dimensioning for critical weather loads is shown by the fact that, in many cases, we had to consider a 380 Km/h wind load, and considering that the weather is mostly wet, providing heavy-duty anti-leak protection has to be resolved. The uniquely wide range preparatory work was mainly supported by our colleagues from the headquarters of our system owner partner in Belgium, Reynaers, and from Prague and Hungary, as well as the professionals from our trade partner and client in Iceland, Gluggar. As a result of our joint efforts, we will install Reynaers’ unique, custom designed and pressed so-called “Out System” technological solution in the building.
The excellent architects also cannot be forgotten, in particular because, in this country, the architect-designer draws and takes liability for the nodes and facade solutions, based on the guidance of trade partners. Soon you will be able to read our report, involving a few trade actors, on this building and the design and manufacturing experience gained this far.
